Low signs new deal with Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs prop Moray Low has today committed his long-term future to the Aviva Premiership club by agreeing a new two-year deal.

Signed in the summer of 2014 from Glasgow Warriors, the Scottish international has to date amassed 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring four tries in the process.

Low’s decision to stay at Sandy Park is yet another welcome boost for head coach Rob Baxter, who has tied down the majority of his current first team squad to extended deals.

Baxter said: “I think Moray has done well for us in his first two seasons here and is looking to be an improving player all the time.

“He has worked his way back into the Scotland squad, and the performances he has put in for us, his ability to play on both sides of the scrum, plus his desire to be considered as a player who can play on both sides has all been great.

“I think he is a good player to have in the squad, he works extremely hard, he is very professional, he’s an easy guy to coach and he enjoys being here.”

Predominantly a tight-head by trade, the 31-year-old forward has demonstrated this season that he is equally as effective at loosehead, giving Baxter further options moving forward.

“Some contract deals are very easy and make a lot of sense for both parties and I think that is where we are with Muzza,” added Baxter. “I think both Muz and Harry Williams have stepped up very well to fill the role that has been left by Tomas Francis.

“Muz has stood up as a seamless player for us and done a really good job at an important time of the season for us. I am really pleased for him and I’m delighted he is staying for another two years.”

Having such strength in the front-row is seen as vital these days and with Australian international Greg Holmes being added this summer, Baxter will have a wealth of riches to choose from come the start of next season

“The front five of your scrum is where a lot of things start and with Greg Holmes coming in and Tomas Francis here, Muzza here, Harry Williams improving for us all the time and Carl Rimmer playing tighthead for us and doing very well – we are starting to look like we have a strong squad of props,” continued Baxter.

“With Moray being able to do a good job at loosehead too along with Alec Hepburn, Ben Moon and Carl Rimmer too, we have options there. Billy Keast has been doing really well for Redruth and will probably get some opportunities with us next season too.”
