Allergy Aware Kitchen is holding its “Food Allergy Awareness & EU Food Allergen Law” training course at Colliton Barton Training Centre, in Honiton near Exeter, on Thursday 12th March in order to help local businesses in Devon meet the new government legislation.

Allergy Aware Kitchen is the number one food allergy training provider and is the only food allergy training course to be supported by Allergy UK, the largest allergy charity in the UK.

The Food Information Regulations EU1169/2011 came into force on the 13th December 2014. The new law applies to all types of restaurants, cafes, delis, pubs, hotels and catering companies, who will have to ensure they can provide allergen information to their customers, when asked.

“This change in regulations is of vital importance to the 4.5 million people in the UK who have a food allergy or intolerance – people are seeking safe places to eat and drink,” says Liz Allan, founder of the Allergy Aware Kitchen, who suffers from a wheat and gluten intolerance herself. “Becoming compliant with new law isn’t as difficult as many think. It also represents a fantastic opportunity for businesses of all sizes in a rapidly growing market.”

The new allergen regulation means that all food service companies need to provide information to their customers about the EU top 14 allergens contained in their dishes. These are gluten, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, sulphur dioxide, eggs, molluscs, crustaceans, sesame, mustard, celery, lupin and soya. For some people eating one or more of these foods can cause them to become seriously ill, or even in extreme cases to die.

Allergy Aware Kitchen has developed an interactive training course suitable for business owners, managers, chefs, kitchen and front of house staff to ensure food service businesses not only comply with the regulations but also have the information necessary to transform their food service and kitchen processes and to cater for the needs and requirements of food allergy guests.
