Exeter players join local business chiefs
Members of the Exeter Chiefs rugby team turned out in force last night for a business forum hosted by The Rugby Players’ Association (RPA) at Sapphire Living Space in Topsham.
Organised as part of the Player Development Programme (PDP), players from the Senior and Academy squads met representatives from local industry sectors including Sapphire Spaces, Rhead Group and Bluesoup.
The Rugby Players’ Association represents the interests of professional rugby players with three areas of focus, player welfare, player development and The RPA’s Official Charity, Restart. The Player Development Programme assists members with professional development during and after their rugby careers.
Commenting on the evening Exeter Chiefs' RPA Representative, Haydn Thomas said: “The high level of attendance tonight shows that players understand the need to look at their options post-rugby. These events allow us to meet local businesses and discuss choices for successful long term careers.”
Mark Newbery, Managing Director at Sapphire Spaces said: “Tonight was our second year hosting the event and we feel very privileged to accommodate such a committed and respected group of Exeter Chiefs' players. We look forward to building on tonight’s success and forging a strong partnership with the club and The RPA.”
Josh Frape who manages the Player Development Programme for Exeter Chiefs underlined how beneficial these events are for all parties: “Having the opportunity to meet businesses, build contacts and gain an insight into their industry furthers player’s knowledge for careers after rugby.”
The players in attendance included: Haydn Thomas, Gareth Steenson, Dean Mumm, Kai Horstmann, Tom Johnson, Phil Dollman, Adam Hughes, Moray Low and Jack Arnott.
