Chairman of Whimple and Broadclyst Young Farmers Club Ben Roberts has presented a cheque to representatives of their Charities of the Year following an amazing year of fundraising.

Members of the club enjoyed a fantastic 12 months of fundraising for their chosen charities Rainbow Living and Brain Tumour Research. Jerry Chew, Chair of Rainbow Living, accepted a cheque for £6,200 at the clubs meeting at Whimple Village Hall in October.

Whimple and Broadclyst Young Farmers Club has a long history of supporting charities through their Charity of the Year initiative. Over the last 12 months, the young farmers organised a variety of events to raise funds for both charities, including an Auction of Promises, bingo night, Christmas tree collection, big breakfasts, a quiz, and a dung sale!

Katie Ackland, Whimple and Broadclyst Young Farmers Vice Secretary, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have raised this much for our chosen charities, and are proud to have supported Rainbow Living and Brain Tumour Research as both charities do such vital work in our local communities. All our members are committed to giving back and have worked so hard to make this such a successful year of fundraising.”

Commenting on the fundraising efforts of the young farmers, Jerry Chew said: “The members have raised a truly wonderful amount, and we would like to say a huge thank you to every single person who organised and supported all the fundraising events. The clubs’ enthusiasm and commitment to supporting local charities is inspiring, and we are grateful to have been a part of their activities this year. Every penny that has been raised will go towards our current project, which is development of a fifth Rainbow Living house in Exeter.”

Rainbow Living is a small local charity, providing accommodation for adults with disabilities, mainly learning disability. The charity is currently fundraising for a fifth house in Exeter, working towards filling some of the gap in provision for independent supported living accommodation in our local communities.
