Dozens of free-styling kayakers will be flipping over Exeter's Flowerpots Weir in Wild West costumes this Saturday, 20th October. The freestyle and boater competition, nicknamed the Potsrodeo, is run by Exeter University canoe club and will be in aid of Devon Air Ambulance Trust. Teams from all over the UK will be competing.

Kayaking enthusiast, Andy Ball, from the Exeter University Canoe Club, said: "The competition is open to any novice, intermediate or expert canoeist.  It‘s all happening at the Mill on the Exe. Exeter University Radio DJ will be playing music all day. There’ll be several heats throughout, but the final will be held after sundown with floodlights on the river. It’s going to be an awesome day with prizes and a raffle. The post-challenge party will be donating the profits from refreshments. There’s nothing locally like this event and we want to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance again. We raised £700 earlier in the year. It’s nice to know they’ll be around to save us if we needed it."

All levels of experience will be welcomed. Registration is £5 per person, or £10 for non-members of the British Canoe Union and begins at 11am this Saturday 20th October. The first heat starts at 12pm.  The after-party will be held in the Revelry Bar at the Cellar Door Nightclub on the quay. Competitors can email for further information team@potsrodeo.co.uk, join the Potsrodeo facebook group or follow them on twitter on @PotsRodeo.  All entrants must be over 18.
