New short film competition 'Made on Dartmoor'

To celebrate its 5th year, the community-run Moretonhampstead Festival of Food, Drink & Arts, is running an intriguing new film competition ‘Made on Dartmoor’Sponsored by Bovey Castle, entries are open now until 12 noon on 4th March 2013.

Moretonhampstead Festival of Food, Drink and Arts is the region’s most upcoming event in a highly competitive foodie calendar and a day dedicated to promoting the finest produce and producers that supply Dartmoor and its moorland communities. The 'Made on Dartmoor' film competition is new to the 2013 festival, promising to highlight the talent and creativity of local filmmakers, whose focus will draw heavily on the iconic rural backdrop.

Potential film makers are being invited to write, shoot and edit a video of no more than 90 seconds that features food-related people, animals or products, all of which either work, are grown or produced within the confines of the Dartmoor National Park.

Bovey Castle is proud to sponsor this feature of the festival, ensuring its appeal continues to grow throughout the South West and beyond. From the apples and sloes gathered from the estate to make traditional cider and gin, to the seasonal British dining experience in The Edwardian Grill, Bovey Castle draws its contemporary and luxurious appeal from the manor house’s rich heritage and the surrounding ancient moorlands.

In collaboration with the Dartmoor Farmers’ Association and numerous Dartmoor suppliers, Bovey Castle launched its Beef Menu in summer 2012, a nose-to-tail dining concept that uses every cut of native moorland beef. “Using and giving back to the local community is integral to dining at Bovey Castle,” explains head chef Marc Hardiman.

We have built relationships with local suppliers over the years ensuring the hotel gets the best products every time, in addition to highlighting the food’s provenance and quality. Supporting a film competition which celebrates this food and countryside of Dartmoor could not be more in keeping with the Bovey Castle philosophy.”

The competition is open to all non-professionals and the quality of the finish of the video will not be the overriding factor for the judges, but rather the quality of the idea and the way in which it is portrayed. The judging panel will view each and every entry and the top six submissions for both adults and under 16’s, as judged by the panel, will go forward to the final at 5pm on Thursday 21st March in the Dartmoor Suite at Bovey Castle.

The winning entry will be forwarded to Regional TV, all food & drink producers and tourist organisations in Devon with a request to air it at their convenience and there are £200.00 worth of prizes up for grabs!

To enter send your DVD to the organizers with your details, by no later than 12noon on Monday 4th March 2013. See the website for entry details www.moretonfestival.com
