Charity fashion show set to be a runway success
A Maynard School six former, Lucie Rising (17), has gone all out to improve her career prospects in the cut-throat fashion industry with an almost sell-out charity fashion show on Thursday, 8 October 2015.
A keen designer and with a family history of fashion, Lucie has organised every element from its initial concept around the kitchen table to a show that has captured the imagination of so many of her peers at the school.
“I’m thrilled by the reaction from everyone and the whole of the Senior School is right behind me to make this a success for my chosen Charity, Plan UK.
"Whilst I may have orchestrated all the organisational aspects, nothing would have been possible without the support from all the Maynard girls.
"I’ve got nearly 30 models from ages 11-18 who have bravely stepped up to the challenge and everyone has been really helpful with designing their own collections, whether it be just a scarf, a complete outfit or something made from newspaper!
“I’ve also been really lucky to have some amazing sponsors in LK Bennett, Bobbi Brown and the Amanda Marsden Salon who will make sure my models all look perfect on the night.”
The inspirational teenager has designed every element single-handedly from the design artwork right through to the catwalk playlist.
“I’ve chosen ‘France’ as my theme to celebrate the Paris Fashion Week and to remember Christian Dior, who died 52 years ago this October.
“Plan UK is a great cause, promoting the importance of the right of education worldwide, and I’m thrilled to be supporting it. I’ve been very lucky to have a privileged schooling and I just wanted to give something back.”
Lucie, who has lived all her life just outside Crediton, has been inspired in recent years by her sister-in-law who is a head designer in London-based fashion house, Mulberry. “I’m hoping to study fashion after A-levels and follow in Melanie’s footsteps thereafter.”
