Online comedy night to raise money for Devon charities
On Sunday 7th June at 7.30pm #BellyLaughsatHome will land on the screens of Devon’s residents, with money being raised for Devon Air Ambulance, Daisi and FareShare South West.
Belly Laughs is a comedy night established by comedian Mark Olver from Bristol and was designed to help independent restaurants increase trade through typically quiet months, as well as raise money for charity. In light of the current pandemic, it has evolved and only last month the event went online with a Bristol #BellyLaughsatHome event raising over £35,000.
Mark Olver, Belly Laughs Founder, said: “We do stuff in that area where food, comedy and doing good stuff for others meets. We’re known most for our January gigs but the world’s gone a little bit crazy right now and I think Belly Laughs at home could be the antidote to that - for a couple of hours anyway. I’m always blown away by people’s generosity at these events and am sure we can raise some money for these great causes whilst having a bit of a laugh at the same time
The Devon night, hosted by stand-up comedian Charlie Baker, is set to be a celebration of Devon-based comedy but we also want to show some love to food & drink businesses, so we hope people might also order in a takeaway or pick up a local tipple to enjoy the night with”.
The comedians & familiar faces set to feature include:
- Charlie Baker (stand-up comedian and TalkSport radio host)
- Josh Widdicombe (comedian of TV fame)
- Suzy Bennett (Comedian who made it into an official list of the ‘50 people who make Plymouth the coolest city’)
- Riordan DJ (Chortle Student Award Winner)
To be part of the event, individuals are encouraged to donate £4 if they are able. All proceeds will be split between Devon Air Ambulance, arts charity Daisi and food charity FareShare South West who has recently expanded their reach into the county to prevent the most vulnerable from going hungry.
