St Michael’s Primary Academy in tune with ESO

The ESO almost doubled in size recently as it welcomed members of St Michael’s orchestra to join its weekly rehearsal.

The children experienced being part of a full strength symphony orchestra as they teamed up to perform the first movement of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony as part of the school’s work on the BBC Ten Pieces project, to friends and family.

Music Co-ordinator and Reception Teacher at ethe school, in South lawn Terrace, Heavitree, Sarah Sowden said: "What a success, parents and children alike loved it. The children were buzzing when they left. It was a great opportunity for them to do something really aspirational and hopefully it will make a long lasting impression."

Miles Leonard, Chairman of the ESO said: "It's taken a lot of planning and organising by both Sarah and Brian Northcott our Musical Director, so it was great to see everyone really enjoying the collaboration. The BBC Ten Pieces project is a great initiative and hopefully we’ve helped bring that to life for the children."

The ESO’s next concert is on Saturday 19th March at 7.30pm in the United Reformed Church, Southernhay.
