Day of play in Teignbridge
Families have the chance to celebrate summer in one of Teignbridge’s parks and nature reserves when National Playday comes up next month.
Some of the district’s best places will be filled with fun and games as part of the event which sees thousands of children and their families get out playing at hundreds of community events across the UK.
As well as a celebration of children's right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives.
National Playday will be celebrated in Courtenay Park, Newton Abbot, on Wednesday 3 August 2016 from 11am to 4pm.
Families will be able to take part in a variety of play activities including face painting, make & take crafts, puppet making, tennis coaching skills, large garden games, water play, and a bouncy castle.
Elfic the Jester will be start the day with a performance at 11.30am, followed by a Circus Skills Workshop until 12.30pm.
National Playday is just one of the many free events that are taking place in the Teignbridge parks and nature reserves this summer.
Teignbridge is putting on a range of events designed to help the community learn about and enjoy the local environment. There is also a host of other events taking place throughout the school summer holidays centred on play and the natural environment.
Tennis and Artstorm will be available at Bakers Park, Newton Abbot, on 10 August between 10am and noon. The Rangers and Children’s Workshops will be at Coombe Valley Nature Reserve, Teignmouth, on 15 August 10am – 12.30pm, supported by Teignbridge’s Sports Bug Project.
Croquet, Tennis, and Artstorm will be in Forde Park, Newton Abbot, on 17 August 10am to noon. Circus Skills and Garden Games bring the summer of free activities to a close on 30 August 10am – noon in Courtenay Park, Newton Abbot.
Councillor George Gribble, Teignbridge Country Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive spokesman for Recreation and Leisure, said:
“Teignbridge has got some wonderful parks and places to play in, from the award-winning Decoy Country Park, Courtenay Park and The Den to beautiful Blue Flag beaches like Dawlish Warren.
“These places are right on our doorstep. National Playday, and other events like it, are great as they give a wider range of people the opportunity to enjoy our parks. Teignbridge has just published its events guide for July to September and it is packed with loads of great things to do. We are keen to encourage more locals to make use of the outstanding places that are available to them.”
