A spooktacular half term and Halloween for Devon!
Devon’s Top Attractions are getting ready for a Spooktacular half term of fun and Halloween happenings and will be offering the very best selection of scary fun and spooky surprises.
A spell will be cast across the county this October Half Term with many ‘trick or treats’ on offer. From bats to broomsticks, pumpkins to parties, it’s all going on! There will be lots of low key Halloween and pumpkin fun for the preschoolers and younger ones and lots of spine-chilling frightful fun for the older children.
Ride the ‘Beer Frights Ghost Train’ at Pecorama and receive a spooky treat for all those in Halloween fancy dress. There will be more railway fun at the Devon Railway Centre with their week-long Halloween Special. Explore their pumpkin trail and discover the Halloween treasure!
Join Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park for some Spooktacular Halloween Fun! Win yourself some yummy treats taking part in the ‘Pumpkin Trail’ and venture, if you dare, through the spooky Egyptian tomb!
There’s some Halloween Hocus Pocus magic going on at the Milky Way Adventure Park, families are invited to enrol in the special school for witches and wizards, dress for the occasion and you could win a prize. There will be a themed show, wand making, spell writing and casting, broomstick riding and potion making and don’t miss the special sessions on the spooky swamp dodgems. All designed to be fun rather than scary!
Powderham Castle unveils its NEW ‘Festival of Frights’ this October Half Term and Halloween. Join the spooky school and enter a whole world of spookiness. There will be face painting, glitter tattoos, pumpkin crafts and ghostly games. You can also meet the weird and wonderful characters at their potion making show. Braver souls can visit Powderham Castle at night for the ‘House of Horrors’ when the shutters are down, the doors are locked and the lights are off you navigate your way through the castle to escape the horrors and characters within!
Head to World of Country Life, Exmouth for some ghostly goings on. Activities include pumpkin carving, a Halloween treasure trail and some spooky arts and crafts. You might even catch the famous ‘Angus and the Witch’ family Halloween show. There will be lots more spooky goings on over at Miniature Pony Centre with a hair-raising week of Halloween treats and surprises. Go along in fiendish fancy dress and the best costume of the day will win a prize.
At the National Trust’s Killerton pick up a trail leaflet and find the wacky and wonderful pumpkin faces popping up around the house, garden and parkland. There’s lots more Halloween trails on offer too at other Devon visitor attractions around the county.
At Becky Falls why not dare to see the ‘Animal Encounters of the Scary Kind’, or take part in the spooky craft activities where you can create your very own spider noughts and crosses or make a spider spinner? Over at Bygones in Torquay they have a spooky experience waiting for you including a spooky Halloween Quiz.
Why not visit The Big Sheep and enjoy their ‘Fun by Day’ Halloween Festival? This includes a whole lot of happy and fun spooky treats. Experience the daytime haunted hayride, lakeside train ride, haunted house, witches flying school and see the singing pumpkins. For the older and braver, try their ‘Scary by Night’ Festival. NEW for 2017 is the Spooky Castle, with haunts, special effects and lots more terrifying fun!
Over at Quince Honey Farm, you can have a buzzingly good time at their Halloween week activities. Cuddle some creepy crawlies, join in with some witch crafting and have some spooky fun in the play hive. When you get hungry you try some of the ghoulishly delicious homemade treats in the café.
It’s all treats and no tricks at Pennywell Farm this half term. The Pennywell animals will be waiting for their last cuddle of the season and the world famous Pennywell miniature piglets will be looking forward to piggy cuddles every day. Don’t miss the top-notch daily entertainment from Mr Phil, Matt Pang, Peco Drom and Elfic. It’s all included in your admission price.
Visit Crealy and step inside their Creaky Hotel! Taken over by new owners it will be opening its doors again and will be better than ever with an all-new, even spookier storyline. Brave the mischievous Treehouse Trolls in the Wilderness, play a special game, solve the riddles and win a prize. See Patch the Pumpkin perform the special Eerie Bug Show and see the NEW Jolly-ween Singing Pumpkin Show. Don’t forget to take your free pumpkin home with you, there’s one free for every child!
Back by popular demand is the Halloween ‘Tram of Terror’ at Seaton Tramway where all children receive a 'baddie bag'. Enjoy the spooky entertainment of Halloween games and activities and taste the revolting refreshments at Colyton Station! Go underground at Kents Cavern and take part in the underground pumpkin hunt, try to complete the witches hat joke trail and then join in the spooky dig. For older children there is a Halloween Ghost Tour that isn’t recommended for the faint-hearted or the under 8’s!
Woodlands Family Theme Park is offering a half term of family friendly ‘fangtastic’ Halloween experiences. The theme park will mysteriously turn into Woodlands Family SCREAM Park and will be cooking up a whole host of spooky activities and trick or treats. Muster up the courage and enter Marty’s Manor, trek through the creepy cave, join Ezmeralda for broomstick training and party games or dance your legs off at Marty’s Monster Disco on the 27th October.
Over at Morwellham Quay, there’s a week of Halloween fun where you can meet the witch in her den, paint a creepy clay shape, find the characters in the Halloween hunt and be spooked on the scary mine train. Bicton Park are inviting you to meet their resident witch, see whether she has a trick or treat up her sleeve for you and ride the spooky Halloween train.
