Acclaimed artist unveils new collection in Exeter
The works of an engineer turned professional artist who creates enchanting paintings inspired by the English countryside will be on display at an Exeter gallery this month.
Acclaimed painter Paul Corfield presented his charming new collection of land and seascapes at Castle Fine Art on Cathedral Yard on Saturday 25th July. The exhibition will be available to view for two weeks until Sunday 9th August.
An artist always at heart, Corfield started sketching at a young age and secured a place at art college, but decided to turn it down to make a living in the aerospace engineering industry instead. For more than a decade, he only painted in his spare time before taking voluntary redundancy in 2002, opening the door for him to pursue art full time.
Starting first with pencil sketches, then building up each layer using oils, Corfield has become acclaimed for creating calming and idyllic countryside scenes, evoking a sense of peacefulness through his use of pastel blues, warming oranges and gentle greens. Through the years, he has built a reputable rapport amongst collectors of his artwork.
Having grown up in Bournemouth, the Dorset landscape has been a source of inspiration throughout Corfield’s artistic career. With escapism as a running theme, he conveys a sense of childlike purity through his portrayal of untouched countryside, serene coastal scenes and eternal summers.
Speaking of his new collection, Corfield said: “I live only a few minutes from the countryside and only a few minutes from the sea so they will always be a feature in my paintings.
“The Dorset landscape is an area of great beauty and a clear source of inspiration for my artwork. Whenever possible I'll take the family off to the fields to explore nature; it's something I always did as a child. ‘Clouds Over The Sea’ is my personal favourite piece from this collection and I hope the viewer feels a sense of serenity when they look at it.”
Selina Cassidy, Castle Fine Art, Exeter’s Gallery Manager, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Paul to the gallery to share his fantastic landscapes, which I’m sure will whisk people away to another world.
“It’s a pleasure to exhibit them and I’m sure the people of Exeter will love them as much as we do. It’s always a great experience for people to meet an artist and hear first-hand their inspiration and how their lives have shaped their careers, and Paul’s is very much an inspirational one.”
Paul Corfield’s new collection will be on display at Castle Fine Art in Exeter from Saturday 25th July until Sunday 9th August.
