From choir stalls to concert platform
Lovers of classical music are in for a rare treat this weekend, as Exeter’s best-loved choir combines with professional orchestral players for a special evening of music by Mozart.
The concert in Exeter Cathedral, which takes place on Saturday 18th June, will be given by the children and adults of Exeter Cathedral Choir and the professional orchestral players of the Cathedral Chamber Orchestra.
The choristers will be swapping the choir stalls for the concert platform in a special programme devised by Mr Noon, who moved to Exeter as Director of Music earlier this year. It includes the famous ‘Laudate Dominum’, an aria from the composer’s Solemn Vespers, which will be sung by professional soprano Julia Featherstone as well as the lively Coronation Mass. The children in the Cathedral Choir, aged 7-13, all attend Exeter Cathedral School and combine their schoolwork with daily rehearsal and performing duties in the Cathedral, taking their part in a tradition that is as old as the building itself.
