EMG Symphony Orchestra heads to Princesshay
On the 20th May, Princesshay will play host to the EMG Symphony Orchestra who will be treating shoppers to a free performance of light, classical music.
The EMG Symphony Orchestra, who are celebrating 50 years in the business, only showcase at a handful of performances throughout the year, making their visit to Princesshay a very special one.
Wayne Pearce, Centre Director for Princesshay said; “We feel very honoured to be able to host the EMG Symphony Orchestra this month, during their 50th anniversary season. Throughout the year Princesshay will be offering a great line up of entertainment for shoppers, dinners and visitors to the city in the run up to our 10th Birthday celebrations and this is one of the highlights for the year.”
The EMG Symphony Orchestra has 90 members, with 35 musicians from the orchestra performing as a chamber orchestra for this performance. The performance will include a brass section, consisting of 3 trumpets and 2 trombones and a double wind section made up of 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets and 2 bassoons. Not only that but there will be a fantastic string section, boasting 6 x 1st violins, 6 x 2nd violins, 5 violas, 6 cellos and 2 double basses along with conductor Tony Hindley.
Rachel Wieck, Chair of The EMG Symphony Orchestra said; “I am very excited about our 50th anniversary season: it is such a significant landmark for the orchestra, which is why we have some extra events in our performance calendar.”
This free performance will take place in Princesshay Square between 10.30am – 11.45am on Saturday 20th May 2017.
