Cricklepit Mill, home to the Devon Wildlife Trust will be opening for a special weekend morning of milling and garden activities on Saturday 7 June 10am – 1pm. The event is free and everyone is welcome to drop in.

Cricklepit Mill’s wildlife garden is an urban oasis in the heart of the city. The volunteer-led project has seen a disused overgrown area bloom into a wonderful wildlife garden.

Devon Wildlife Trust’s Communication Assistant Jasmine Atkinson said: "We hope that the garden is a place where visitors can come and relax as well as get inspired to help wildlife in their own gardens."

She added: "We’re only usually open five days a week so we wanted to give people the chance to discover Cricklepit on a weekend day. The garden is looking its very best with the wildflower meadow patch providing beautiful colour and the bee and butterfly border attracting many insects."

A leat runs through the garden providing a corridor for wildlife including grey wagtails, dippers and if you’re lucky, kingfishers! The leat also provides power for the historic mill which still runs today.

The mill will be running throughout the morning with volunteers on hand to show visitors how wheat was ground to make flour in the past. Visitors who are inspired to get baking can buy flour straight from the mill stones!

There will also be activities for families in the garden including crafts and garden trails.

For people who cannot make this date the mill’s visitor area and gardens are open 9am-5pm weekdays throughout the year and regular milling days are normally held on the second Friday of every month.
