Exeter film premiere for psychological thriller Hell's Bells

Having smashed its Crowdfunder target earlier this year, Hell's Bells, made by Exeter based film and theatre company Wandering Tiger, will receive a local screening on Friday 2 December 2016 at Exeter Phoenix as part of the Two Short Nights film festival.

For those who can't wait that long, Halloween will also see the release of a special Hell's Bells trailer via Wandering Tiger's website and social media. Made with the support of Creative England via the BFI NET.WORK, the film tells the story of a young woman who has been brainwashed by a secret society of Morris dancers.

The short film caught the imagination of film buffs and Morris dancers alike who backed the film via a Crowdfunder campaign allowing Wandering Tiger to complete the exciting 14 minute short.

Hell's Bells was shot entirely on location in Devon over the summer with local cast and crew. The film’s writer and director Luke Jeffery will be taking part in a Q&A session following the December screening.

Film locations include The Tally Ho community pub, Poltimore House, The Boat Shed and Hearn Field in Combeinteignhead, where the crew shot a village fete scene. Red Rock Brewery also sponsored the film and created a custom Hell’s Bells beer for the shoot.

The Dartington Morris Men were involved with the project, appearing in the film, providing costumes, props and playing traditional music for the soundtrack. The film also features a dance routine with Josh Fedrick, a former West End Billy Elliot, who plays the part of a Morris dancer.

Luke Jeffery, writer/director of Hell’s Bells, said: “I would like to thank all the people who have supported us in bringing Hell's Bells to the screen. I also want to clarify that the story is entirely fictional. I’ve spent a lot of time with the Dartington Morris Men, and they’re all very nice, ordinary, respectable people. Nothing suspicious to report!”

Now it is complete Hell’s Bells is being submitted to film festivals across the country, including Aesthetica, Raindance, London Short Film Festival and Encounters.

Wandering Tiger are now planning their next project, a feature length film based around the same concept!
