Spooky goings on are taking place at parks, gardens and nature reserves across Teignbridge next week.
There are Halloween events taking place at Victoria Park, Buckfastleigh and Shaldon’s Homeyards Botanical Gardens where Teignbridge will be working with local groups to make the events spook-tacular! Everyone is welcome.
On Tuesday October 25 a Halloween craft session and ranger activity in the afternoon between 2 and 4pm, in Victoria Park, Buckfastleigh.
Victoria Park is the ideal location for play with facilities including skate ramps, a basketball hoop and a junior play area. Victoria Park Buckfastleigh is managed by a local board of Trustees after responsibility transferred to them from Teignbridge District Council in April 2015.
The trustees are hosting the event which will include a ‘Ghoulish Creations’ craft session with Artstorm, a ‘Spidery Teignbridge Ranger activity’, and ‘Garden Games’. Refreshments will be available.
Pam Barrett, Chair of the Trustees said: “We're really delighted to have Teignbridge's support in arranging this event for our young people and we hope everyone has a spooky time!”
On Saturday October 29 The Friends of Homeyards Botanical Gardens in Shaldon are putting on a Halloween themed event from 5pm. This will include a ‘Creepy Crafts’ session by Artstorm, Teignbridge Rangers ‘Spidery Spooks’, and Shaldon Zoo is also getting involved to put on a specially-themed event.
Lisa Pash, Chairman of the Friends of Homeyards Botanical Gardens, said: “Homeyards ‘secret garden’ qualities with the folly castle and the Witches Cave, associated with the story of Old Mother Gum, make it the perfect setting for Halloween. There’ll be magical things to do, eat and drink. Skeletons, witches and wizards young and old – are welcome!”
On Saturday 29 October Dawlish Warren will host a Junior Rangers Halloween scavenger hunt. This takes place from 1.30pm to 3pm from the Dawlish Warren visitor centre.
Cllr George Gribble, Teignbridge Executive spokesman for Recreation and Leisure said: "We're delighted to be supporting these local events for residents and visitors. Teignbridge has many beautiful open spaces, parks, woodlands and commons and these events give people, particularly youngsters, the opportunity to get out there and enjoy them. Whether it's learning new crafts and helping do your bit for your community, these are free and fun opportunities to get a breath of fresh air, meet the dedicated volunteers who make it happen and do something new.”
