International blind adventurer comes to Exeter
A world record breaker and blind adventurer is to share his inspiring story at a big church event in Exeter.
Rediscover Church is to host a special free event called New Day at the University of Exeter’s Great Hall on October 8th, a venue which seats 1450 people.
The event is set to have a buzzing atmosphere, with contemporary and vibrant worship and inspiring stories of hope, including special guest Miles Hilton-Barber who has completed extreme endurance events across 7 continents of the world.
The event is an exciting and ambitious venture for the church which connects weekly with over 600 people through its programmes. They also broadcast live online and attract both a local and international audience.
Miles’ adventures around the world have seen him engage with mountaineering, desert and polar ultra-marathons, power-boat racing and supersonic flying. His experiences have led him to become internationally famous, with articles in all the major global press outlets.
Miles became blind in his early twenties, and since then has explored and completed challenges around the world including the Sahara Desert, Antarctica, Himalayas, South Pole and Mont Blanc.
He is now an acclaimed public speaker and shares at big events including those run by Barclays, Airbus, Virgin Atlantic, Red Bull and Rolls-Royce.
Miles will be sharing on ‘the only limits in your life are those you accept yourself’ and ‘New Day’ will be a unique opportunity to hear about his powerful experiences.
Rediscover Church Lead Pastor Mark Pugh said, “I love inspiring events! To be inspired beyond the humdrum of my familiar routines and think beyond my cynicism and limitations, opens up a whole new world of possibilities. This event will be so inspiring - the life-filled worship, the no-limits adventures of our speaker and the uplifting stories of lives changed will all create a very unique Sunday morning experience for everyone. We hope you can experience it for yourself!”
Alongside Miles, there will be fun activities taking place for children, and people of all ages are being invited to come along and experience ‘church like you’ve never seen it!’
Rediscover Church, which currently hosts two services each Sunday at its location in Northernhay Street, say that huge numbers of people are open to challenging pre-conceptions of what church is like, with many discovering this it is quite different to what they think it might be.
They say that more people than ever before are open to exploring Christianity, and in recent months 150 people have signed up to Alpha, an 8 week course exploring the basics of the Christian faith. Well known personalities including TV adventurer Bear Grylls share on the course, and already there has been record signups for their next event in mid-October.
As well as the event in October, the church is hosting special events throughout the year at the University’s Great Hall. In December they are organising a special South West Christmas Celebration which is thought to be the first of its kind in the area. On 2nd December they are also hosting a special concert with the world-renowned London Community Gospel Choir.
New Day takes place on October 8th, starting 11.30am at the University of Exeter’s Great Hall. The event is free and open to people of all ages.
There’s no need to book ahead of time, just turn up on the day.
