Open Mic UK 2014 auditions come to Exeter
Open Mic UK is one of the largest national music competitions for singers and solo artists in the UK.
With over 9,000 entrants last year, they search for the UK’s best singers, singer-songwriters, rappers and vocalists who are yet undiscovered and they give them a chance to start a career in the highly competitive music industry.
They have unearthed stars such as Lucy Spraggan and also Luke Friend who came third in last year’s X Factor.
Open Mic UK will be coming to Exeter on Saturday 27 September and will take place at the Exeter Corn Exchange. All ages are welcome to enter the competition, and there are specific categories based on age. They are divided into under 16, 16-20 and 21 and over categories.
The singers who make it through auditions will then perform live in front of a judging panel and a packed out audience. The judging panels are made up of industry specialists such as A&R scouts from record labels, vocal coaches, studio producers and guest celebrities. Past judges have included BBC Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale and Kiss FM’s Charlie Hedges.
Their live performance will take place in one of the UK’s most prestigious live music venues. The National Grand Final has previously been held at the O2 in London.
Chris Grayston, who is the Head of Future Music which is the company who runs the competition, had this to say: “Every year the bar is raised and the quality gets higher and higher, we’re really looking forward to seeing some fresh talent from across the country.
“This is a great chance to let the country see your talent.”
There are up to £50,000 worth of prizes, which include recording studio time and singing lessons. For the overall winner there is a £5,000 cash prize.
Audition places are limited, so if you’re interested you need to enter soon.
