Sidmouth Literary Festival 2018 opens this Friday
The fourth annual Sidmouth Literary Festival kicks off on Friday and with a raft of exciting and bestselling authors. Friday opens with two sold out events: An Audience with Nicholas Parsons, and veteran broadcaster Kate Adie in conversation with Rene Wyndham.
Amongst Saturday’s highlights, Festival patron Judi Spiers talks to TP Fielden aka Christopher Wilson. As a journalist, Christopher wrote the William Hickey column in the Mail for a number of years as well as biographies of Prince Charles and Camilla. Now under the pseudonym TP Fielden he has created a new chapter as a crime writer, and will be talking about his second “Riviera Detective” novel featuring Miss Judy Dimont journalist turned sleuth.
In “From Romance to Erotica” much loved writer Liz Fenwick (author of One Cornish Summer and The Returning Tide) and Jenny Kane (Abi’s House) explore the story of the romantic novel and its development from the gentle Barbara Cartland to the phenomenon of EL James and 50 Shades…..There will also be chocolate samples from local chocolate makers Chocaholics Paradise.
On Sunday, in addition to our popular and practical How To Get Published workshop, TV’s Green Goddess - Diana Moran - will be talking about healthy ageing and her latest book Sod Sitting, Get Moving which encourages a more active lifestyle in our later years. The weekend is completed with crime writing royalty – Nicci French (aka Nicci Gerard and Sean French) - bestselling creators of psychotherapist Frieda Klein. Hear about the final instalment in this thrilling series which will be published this month.
There are plenty of other events to choose from ranging from crime to history to husband hunting, a poetry open mic, and a festival feel around Gertie the vintage caravan’s delicious refreshments. With a positive advance weather forecast, we’re all set for Sun, Sea and Books!
