New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and while there are loads of great places to go in the area for a night out, sometimes you want to do something at home.  That means having a party!  But what can you do that’s a little different to the normal nibbles and 80s music?

Have a dress up party

Having a dress up party is completely guaranteed to create a load of laughs and memorable photos.  You can set a theme for the party if you like – maybe a favourite film or TV series, costumes from a certain era or something classic like a masquerade ball for adults.  Or you can leave it up to people what they choose and be ready with the camera when they arrive.  This is also a brilliant idea if there are kids coming as most kids love dressing up.

Set up a champagne bar

For an adults only party, a champagne bar is a classy and low-workload way to host a party.  Everyone comes wearing their suits and fancy ballgowns and you can decorate the place.

Pick up a few bottles of different sparkling wines such as Prosecco, Cava and some champagne then grab some different garnishes and things to add to it like crème de cassis to make a Kir Royale.  Serve with some nibbles such as macarons, chocolate cherries and even some fruit.

Hire funfair rides

For something really different that the kids will love, why not hire a funfair ride?  You don’t need to have a huge amount of space to set up a single funfair ride and if you are having a street party, this is perfect.  If there’s an area in the street that everyone can use, it is simple for a funfair ride to be set up here.

Some of the types of rides are even smaller enough to work in the back garden if there is the right access for it.  Then you can set up somewhere to grab hot drinks and you have the perfect outdoor New Year’s Eve party.

Set up a photo booth

Parties are about making memories and one of the fun ways to do this is with a photo booth.  Grab a curtain or make a glitter backdrop and choose some fancy dress accessories like hats, funny glasses and feather boas.  Then get your guests to pose for the camera in front of the backdrop, wearing different accessories.

This is great to share on social media and send to your friends the next day too!

Have a balloon countdown

Having a big countdown is a huge part of New Year’s Eve and a fun way to do this is with a balloon countdown for the hours.  Start with six balloons and write on the time for each hour leading to midnight.  Use some Blu-Tac to add them to a wall then on the stroke of the hour, have a balloon popping moment.  The kids can take turns and you can even add glitter into the balloon – if you don’t mind sweeping it all up the next day.

Play party games

If all else fails, then party games are a safe bet for a New Year party.  From board games to computer games where everyone joins in, there are loads of ideas.  Singing contests, Monopoly and more, these are games that everyone can get involved with and can be chosen based on who’s at the party.

The best party ideas

Planning the best party is about finding the balance between what your guests will love and what works for you.  Then everyone will have a brilliant time – Happy New Year!
