Antara creative team come together for the first time

An Exeter-based company, Interwoven Productions, welcomed Indian dance star Ajeesh K Balakrishnan to the South West in a launch party attended by The Exeter Daily Editor Natalie Vizard and held at Evolution’s Merlin’s Cave, Fore St, Exeter.

Ajeesh comes fresh from the world-renowned Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts in Bangalore and has toured Europe and Asia with them.

Producer, JoJo Spinks says “It’s an extraordinary coup to attract an artist of Ajeesh’s standing to the SW but I think we had a secret weapon ….”

Pictured here alongside Ajeesh is Kay Crook, his co-star in Antara, a new Anglo-Indian dance collaboration. Kay is an award-winning dance artist, who has also toured nationally and recently completed a six-month residency with Attakkalari, where their journey together began. Antara is an inter-cultural love poem, set to dance and working on it has given the couple the chance to be together again for their own “Indian Summer”.

Ajeesh says “The story has a real resonance with my personal life. It is a dream to bring the honest, raw experience of my journey with Kay to the stage - and to make it into a work of art.”

Antara is a celebration of diversity and Interwoven Productions are also extremely proud to feature the work of spoken word artist, Steve Duncan. Steve crowned the launch event evening with a live performance of some of his work. Check out this rising star in Preaching Diversity (see video link).
