Clarke Andrews Tempest comes to Exeter and Bodmin this summer A new show inspired by The Tempest is touring to Exeter and Bodmin this summer. Featuring a mix of live performance, film, silent comedy, evocative music and the original Shakespearean text, Clarke Andrews Tempest will take you back to a vintage age of silent movies and forgotten stories.

Marooned on the island once inhabited by Prospero, washed up silent film star Clarke Andrews (Charlie Coldfield) finds himself enchanted by the residual magic of events long forgotten. Watched over by the spirit Ariel, Clarke’s memories, dreams, hopes and fears are revealed as events from Shakespeare’s last play unfold in this new imagining of The Tempest. Clarke’s memories, dreams, hopes and fears are observed in the form of silent film and digitally created images as the story of The Tempest unfolds through beautiful new songs written and performed live by Jim Causley.

As Clarke Andrews, Charlie Coldfield uses silent comedy and the original Shakespearean text to bring to life multiple characters from the play. Audiences will recognise some of the locations used in the films including the Babbacombe Cliff Railway which still possesses the charm of an era gone by.

Additional music from The Dalwood Rocket and the vintage design add to the evocative jazz age setting. Performer, Charlie Coldfield talks about how exciting it is to be bringing the show to Exeter and Bodmin this summer: “It’s a real pleasure to bring the show home to Exeter and to a brilliant new venue in Bodmin. We’ve had such good fun in rehearsals and working together, so I hope audiences enjoy watching the piece as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.”

Clarke Andrews Tempest is a collaboration between actor Charlie Coldfield, singer songwriter Jim Causley and film maker and photographer Benjamin Borley accompanied by score from The Dalwood Rocket.

The show features a combination of live performance, film and computer generated images and is directed by Polly Agg Manning.

You can catch Clarke Andrews Tempest at The Old Library Bodmin on July 20th at 7.30pm and at St Nicholas Priory Exeter 23rd - 25th July at 7.30pm.
