EDGE Dance Company coming to Exeter
EDGE, London Contemporary Dance School’s international touring postgraduate company perform a triple bill of specially commissioned brand-new works by renowned choreographers Alleyne Dance, Igor X Moreno and Riccardo Buscarini. With each piece comes a new point of exploration: how movement can create emotion or characters; how dance interacts with different art forms; how using the body can reveal meaning, ideas and desires.
Expect physicality, poetry and rigour as the 14 young dancers from across the globe (including the USA, Norway, Slovenia, Israel, Canada, Poland and the UK) invest power and passion into each work.
Riccardo Buscarini created Charade for EDGE:
“Working for and with the EDGE Dancers is a luxury. As an independent choreographer, I feel privileged to collaborate with such a big ensemble of young dancers who are in the perfect moment in the career: hungry, curious, committed and ready to be challenged.”
Alleyne Dance created To be…Myself for EDGE:
“We would like to say thank you to all 14 amazing artists of EDGE. We wanted to challenge and push limits beyond their expectations. We wanted to assist them into becoming the artist they are capable to be through this physical creative process. Between the achievements, playfulness, failures and the challenging moments, we are very proud to see the dancers’ passion shine through in their physicality and we are excited to see how much they will grow through the tour and then onto the professional industry.”
The Choreographers
Alleyne Dance reflect athleticism in their unique aesthetic of blending Afro-Caribbean, Hip Hop, Kathak, Latin and Circus Skills within a contemporary dance context. Alleyn Dance has received over 10 choreographic commissions including The Bench, creating an outdoor work on 2faced Dance Company, which is due to be toured from 2020.
Award-winning choreographer Riccardo Buscarini has been working internationally in the fields of contemporary dance and visual arts since 2009. He has collaborated in events for London Fashion Week and London Festival of Architecture (2016 to 2019). Silk, his creation for Chelyabinsk Contemporary Dance Theater (Russia) was nominated for two Golden Masks 2018 (Best Choreography and Best Choreographer) at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
