If you’ve never got caught up in the yearly, musical mayhem that is the Eurovision Song Contest, you’ve been missing out. Not only is it the hottest competition of the year for contending countries, but also for millions of viewers worldwide and those of you like me-who have placed a bet of the one-night-only worldwide, televised spectacular. This year is hosted by the much-loved host Graham Norton and is attended by Pop Queen, Madonna.

What is the Eurovision Song Contest?

The Eurovision Song Contest began in 1956 and has run annually since, meaning 64 rounds of proud winners. Each country can submit only one song of up to 3 minutes, sung by 1-6 people. They must vie for the judges and guest’s approval. This year the contest takes place in Tel-Aviv, Israel.

How do Contests Win the Eurovision Song Contest?

To win the battle of the voice’s countries must be voted the most popular by a range of judges, selected from participating countries and guests. The competition favours the 5 big countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the host country, Israel) automatically qualify for the final. There will be 26 countries featured in the final on May 18th. The remaining countries take part in 1 semi-final with the top 10 of each going through. Each act must sing live, while no live instruments.

As most contestants must pass through a semi-final to reach the grand finale, there's loads of room for pre-final bets and predictions and we’ve some great tools created by Unibet to help you get in the right mood.
