O'Shea & O'Gaukroger are steaming ahead with plans to get their comic writing transferred to the big screen, with the release of their most recent comedy short film Beauty Contest.
The girls have teamed up to work in collaboration with Cineon Productions, a South West-based film production company formed by award-winning professionals who have worked with partners such as the UK Film Council and commercial industry, producing a range of films which have been shown on BBC television as well as in the US and China.
Beauty Contest marks the fourth installment of a six- part comedy series from this collaboration, with the first film Two Birds, One Pint being screened on the opening night of the London Short Film Festival to rave reviews:
“There was laugh-out-loud entertainment in Two Birds, One Pint directed by Marina O’Shea… with well-written and well-performed sharp hilarity, [this film] explores a magnificently amusing merge between man and beast.” PeanutButterThoughts
The series has also caught the attention of the Cambridge Strawberry Short Film Festival, with one of these shorts being screened at the Festival on 31 May. This festival enjoys national support and has international recognition and the girls had stiff competition to get through to the final screening.
Beauty Contest is also going forward as part of a special pitch to channel 4's Comedy Blap series - Channel 4's new vehicle for delivering fresh comedy talent. The girls also plan to put together a screening of the entire series when completed in their home town of Exeter, as a thank you for all the local support they have received so far.
These films have also been entered into festivals around the country, are screened as part of their touring shows around the UK and appear as a special feature on their tour DVD.
The girls also have some big plans to make them available to a much wider
audience… So watch this space!
