Exeter Northcott Theatre announces new shows now on sale
Exeter Northcott Theatre has announced four new shows for 2014 that are now on sale.
With a mixture of high-quality drama, music and comedy, 2014 already looks set to be a fantastic year for the Exeter Northcott Theatre. With shows from The Mousetrap and A Tale of Two Cellos with Julian Webber, to Punt and Dennis and An Audience with Pam Ayres, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The 60th anniversary tour of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap comes to the Exeter Northcott stage from Monday 30 June - Saturday 5 July. The Mousetrap is famous around the world for being the longest running show of any kind in the history of British theatre – with almost 25,000 performances it’s a play to be proud of. To celebrate 60 incredible years on stage, it’s going on tour for the first time, with a star cast to give you a once in a life-time opportunity to see this masterpiece.
Punt and Dennis are a comedy double act consisting of Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis and they bring their show, Ploughing on Regardless to the Exeter Northcoott on Friday 17 January. It’s mid-winter. The roads are icy. The gritting lorries are out in force, the pavements are slippery, and the news broadcasts are full of people telling viewers to “send us your pictures of snow.” Everyone has a cold. The boiler has broken down again and the gas bill is due. The AA are busy advising comedians “not to tour the country unless it is absolutely essential.” Despite all this, Punt and Dennis are Ploughing On Regardless.
Julian Lloyd Webber is one of the finest musicians of his generation. Together with his wife, fellow cellist Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, they present a brand-new concert featuring world premiere performances of duets for two cellos on Thursday 20 February. The performance features music from the great composers across the classical spectrum from Monteverdi to Arvo Pärt, Dvořák, Bach, Rachmaninov, Saint-Saëns, Schumann and many more.
Pam Ayres brings her latest show to the Exeter Northcott Theatre on Monday 7 April. Her hair-trigger timing, her eye for the detail of everyday life, and for the absurdity therein, makes for an art that hides art.
As well as seeing performances at the Exeter Northcott, audiences can get involved in the joy of making theatre with their ENGAGE programme.
From Autumn 2013, over-50s can get involved with The Play’s the Thing, a new social play reading group which will get together ahead of the big dramas this season and read scripts over coffee. This group is suitable for anyone who loves drama, wants to meet people and get to grips with plays they may not have heard or seen before. To book, please ring the Box Office on 01392 493493
The ENGAGE programme is for people of all ages. 16-26 years olds can get involved with the theatre’s Young Critics scheme. If you fancy being a theatre critic for Exeter Northcott Theatre in return for free press tickets to shows, simply submit a 250 word review of ANY show, gig, exhibition, film or television programme to engage@exeternorthcott.co.uk by Monday 7 October 2013. Ten of the most promising young critics will be selected to take part in the project.
