There are plenty of opportunities to get out and about this half term and enjoy our outstanding East Devon countryside.

Birdwatching for children on Tuesday 28 October is a free event. An interest in nature is best encouraged at the earliest possible age – that is the firm belief of East Devon District Council’s Countryside team.

Experienced and knowledgeable birdwatcher Ian Waite has kindly agreed to lead this session, aided by the Education Rangers, to help children spot and identify birds at the Axe Estuary Wetlands near Seaton. There will be two sessions; 1.30-2.30pm and 2.30-3.30pm. It’s a practical activity in the hide, so space is limited and booking is essential. Binoculars and telescopes will be provided.

Family adventure day is on Wednesday 29 October at Holyford woods near Colyford. Join the Education Ranger for a fun, hands-on experience where you can learn outdoor skills such as shelter building, campfire cooking, woodland crafts and more. Places are limited, so booking is essential. Cost: £8 per child.

Pumpkins and spooky stories will be taking place on Thursday 30 October, 6– 8pm. Pumpkin carving in the Axe Estuary Wetlands classroom (tools will be provided) will be followed by spooky stories – around the campfire if the weather allows.

Our Education Rangers will help you create some scary designs, and cider cup and hot chocolate will be available to keep out the Hallowe’en chill. Cost: £5 per pumpkin, donation for a hot drink. Booking essential as places are limited.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all events. To book or for more information call 01395 517557 or email Countryside@eastdevon.gov.uk
