Mama G's Story Time Roadshow heads to Exeter Fringe Festival
Created by popular panto dame Robert Pearce: Mama G tells stories about being who you are and loving who you want, to children and their families (and anyone who’ll listen!)
She has spread her message all over the UK at libraries, theatres, museums and festivals, as well as making appearances in Canada (live on stage) and America (on screen.) - and she will be performing at Exeter Fringe Festival in July.
Mama G's Story Time Roadshow combines pantomime, drag and the traditional art of storytelling and is a fabulous mix of stories, songs and audience participation.
All the stories told by Mama G are written by Robert Pearce and audiences will get to meet a whole host of fabulous characters: confused unicorns, feuding fairies, champion twerkers and of course… Oprah.
There’ll be audience participation, puppets and even a twerking competition - so get practicing!
The show was recently seen at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre in London, where it garnered five star reviews across the board and for LGBT History Month it toured to theatres in Lowestoft, Gravesend, Slough and Camberley.
"I found myself on more than one occasion misty-eyed with just the sheer goodness of it all – nothing was cloying; it comes from an authentic place and I saw that connection in the eyes of the children.” - LondonTheatre1 (on the show’s run at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre in May 2019)
Robert is a native of Devon, being a born and bred Janner and is thrilled to be bringing his fabulous panto creation to his home county. He has been a professional actor for fourteen years and in that time has appeared in twenty-five professional pantomimes.
He also writes and directs pantomimes and his scripts have been seen all over the globe. As well as panto Robert has toured the UK alongside showbiz legend Tommy Steele, worked with internationally renowned musical theatre writers Stiles and Drew and even had a stint playing Bungle in the retro children’s TV classic, Rainbow.
Previously, Robert’s appearances in Devon have been at the Plymouth Theatre Royal, Princess Theatre Torquay, Queen’s Theatre Barnstaple, Exeter Northcott and The Landmark in Illfracombe; so he is delighted to be appearing at the inaugural Exeter Fringe Festival and for the first time at the Exeter Phoenix. His theatre company, Petite Pantos, produces pantomime with a social conscience.
They champion LGBTQ+ issues, feminism and positive representation of race and gender and aim to open a dialogue on these subjects that every generation can engage with.
Mama G is at the forefront of their efforts and is evidence that panto isn’t just for Christmas! "Mama G is the perfect host for these charming stories. She is sensationally endearing, sparkly and witty. The show is perfectly suited for all audiences and we as a family adored it. Now – Everybody say Love!" - TheSpyInTheStalls (on the show’s run at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre in May 2019)
