Musical Madam's Mixtape celebrates women in the arts

Music! Comedy! Stand-up Poetry! DJ's and Dancing! Date: Saturday 19 March 2016 Time: 7.30pm-12.30am Venue: Exeter Phoenix (Voodoo Lounge).

As International Women's Day approaches, it's time to celebrate some of the incredible women who make music in Devon. Creative, Assertive and Diverse is the talent of our musical madams. And yet, year after year women struggle to top the bills at shows, events and festivals, with only 14% of acts beng female led at ALL major festivals in 2015. Now I dont know about you ... but theres something wrong with that picture.

With this in mind, Fey Pink (Mysterious Freakshow) has teamed up with Suaad George (RESPECT Festival, Devon Racial Equality Council) to put on a very eclectic night of women led Music & Arts. Featuring the epic talents of: Miss Von Trapp, Jackie Juno, Pure Mischief, Kat Black and DJ Perfect. 

Make sure you bring your dancing shoes. From Poetry to Activism, Feminism to Soul, Comedy to Hedonism ... there will be something for everybody at this night of celebrating and showing some appreciation for the ladies that work so hard to entertain us.

Everyone - men and women - can pledge to take a concrete step to help achieve gender equality more quickly - whether to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, call for gender-balanced leadership, respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias.

Each of us can be a leader within our own spheres of influence and commit to take pragmatic action to accelerate gender equality.
