Exeter University Theatre Company (EUTCo) are proud to announce their production of One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Dale Wasserman’s stunning stage adaptation of Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel.

This modern American classic follows the inmates of an Oregon psychiatric hospital under the sinister watch of Nurse Ratched, who are disrupted by the arrival of troublemaker Randle Patrick McMurphy. As the play unfolds the inmates, under McMurphy’s leadership, continue to test Nurse Ratched’s authoritarian control. Tensions rise as McMurphy’s antics become progressively more ambitious, screening the baseball World Series for the ward and organising a basketball game which quickly gets out of control. One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a household name for good reason – thanks to its original premise, colourful characters, and gripping plot, the story has captured the imaginations of readers and audience members for over half a century.

One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a damming exploration of the treatment of mental health patients that resonates to this day. EUTCo are working with Be The Change, a mental health awareness group on campus, to create a meaningful and accurate production. The show is being directed by Devon Cairns and Lucy Green, and will be performed at the Northcott Theatre from February 18th-21st.
