Professional touch as community takes the stage for Christmas classic
An ambitious production of Scrooge the Musical – based on the Dickens’ classic ‘A Christmas Carol’ - promises to be a festive treat for audiences.
The song-filled community performance, which features actors, singers and dancers from Kentisbeare Performing Arts, takes place at Kentisbeare Village Hall from Tuesday December 6 to Saturday, December 10.
The production has been co-ordinated by musical director/producer Alan Boxer, director Rob Pudner, choreographer Leanne Perkins and designer Chris Speyer. James Wakefield steps into the miserly shoes of the title character.
Alan Boxer said: ‘We secured the rights to perform this fantastic show more than a year ago. Since that time we have been assembling our cast of brilliant performers and our many volunteer helpers.
‘It is a real collaboration between professional people working in the performing arts, doing this as a job and experienced performers and theatre makers and a group of very enthusiastic, talented individuals, some seasoned performers and others ‘treading the boards’ for the very first time.’
‘I would urge people to come and see it – it really is up there with professional productions.’
A production for all the family, Scrooge is a musical adaptation of the Dickens’ classic ‘A Christmas Carol’. It brings to life the story of a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge who transforms into a kind and generous man after he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. It is a tale that has charmed generations with its story of repentance, giving, and the magic of the Christmas spirit
This production was written and composed by renowned writer-composer-lyricist Leslie Bricusse in 1970.
