Success for Exeter's DanSci Street Stars
On Sunday 17th April, juniors from DanSci Dance Studio took to the stage to compete against some of the top Dance Crews in the South West.
The DanSci Street Stars crew made up of five students from the studio aged eight and nine years old performed a 2 minute piece which included all aspects of street dance from locking and popping, and house, to hip hop, breaking and tutting!
The Street Dance Challenge was held in Taunton at the Well Springs Leisure Centre. Set up by Dance Events Management Limited who run them across the country with the aim of providing a platform for dancers to express their love for Street. Hosted by world class DJs and guest judges; Caramel Soldier, Marlon "Swoosh" Wallen from Flawless, Israel Donowa and Kayla Lomas-Kirton.
Along with their families and staff members, Amelie Machin, Harry Worthington, Keira Hennessey, Lucas Hackworthy, and Toby Thomas travelled to Taunton. They performed in the novice Under 10 category placing 3rd. A fantastic result for their first experience.
Teacher Julia Mlynarska said: “The minute they entered the competition and heard the music, their eyes lit up and seeing the crowds made them dance better than ever! The energy from all dancers was phenomenal. Luckily, we were one of the first to perform and then enjoyed watching older crews and learning from them, as well as the judges during breaks.”
One of the parents agreed saying “The atmosphere was fantastic, everyone was cheering all the dancers on, it was such a positive experience and wonderful for the children to meet amazing professional, celebrity dancers who were encouraging and got up to dance, take photos and meet with them all. We could not recommend UK Street Dance Challenge highly enough”
The DanSci Street Stars crew will proudly show off their trophy in class this week before getting back to the hard work of preparing for their next performance.
