Upcoming gigs at Unit 23 Live
Mihangelf Promotions is a new music promotions enterprise in South Devon putting on live music, primarily at the Unit 23 Live venue in Totnes, formerly South Devon Arts Centre, a short hop away on the train or down the A38.
The enterprise is run by music lover Mike Fraser who lives local to Totnes.
Genres of music focused on are psychedelic/space rock, psychedelic/ambient/world dance and progressive rock, though don't be surprised at the occasional reggae or folk event.
Successful gigs already put on include Gong in March and Eat Static in October - both of whom are used to playing to much larger audiences, throughout the UK, in Europe and beyond - with enthusiastically favourable responses from the artists and gig-goers alike.
The venue is on a small industrial estate, 5 mins walk from Totnes town centre, 10 mins from the mainline train station. The main ground floor has the bar, with local real ales available, and there is an upstairs balcony area. It is an intimate venue and yet its 300 capacity allows for higher profile artists such as those mentioned above. Plus its industrial estate location means that the standard midnight curfew can be extended to 2am.
Upcoming gigs in November and December are space rock legends, Here & Now supported by local prog rock magicians, Magic Bus - £13 in advance; Nodens Ictus featuring Ed & Silas Wynne of those other space rock legends, Ozric Tentacles - £15 in advance; and a Banco de Gaia solo live set from ambient/workd/techno pioneer, Toby Marks, with stunning visuals - £15 in advance. Tickets are available via ticketsource.co.uk - with the aforementioned prices subject to an additional booking fee. All in all, a good run up to the festive season. And 2018 is to continue in the same vein, with the likes of Astralasia, Transglobal Underground and System 7.
