Villages in Action gear up for autumn

Thanks to their family of inspiring volunteers and funding from Arts Council England, they are delighted to present a season of extraordinary world class performances live in villages across Devon.

This autumn you’ll find theatre, dance, circus, poetry, laughter, puppetry, and music from across the world in village halls, churches and community spaces. You can expect cups of tea, homemade cakes and a warm welcome wherever you go.

The Villages in Action website lists the full programme of events, but here are just a few highlights coming up over the next few months…

The season kicks off on 1st September, where PanGottic Theatre will be delighting audiences with circus antics with a scientific twist at South Brent Village Hall. Their show Long Shot is a catapult-tastic evening of clowning, contraptions, comedy and courage, as one man’s belief in the near impossible is put to the test. Long Shot will have you on the edge of your seat. Or hiding behind it. Either way, it’s going to be a blast.

Other highlights include Son Yambu’s authentic ‘Son Cubano’ or Cuban son – the essential Afro-Cuban music that originated in the streets of eastern Cuba – at Buckland in the Moor Community Hall on 7th September. We challenge you not to dance! Cornish company North South Theatre will be performing their hit WW1 show Pals at Talaton Parish Hall on 5th October, and Drakes Drummers invite you to a world where all of Shakespeare’s creations live, laugh and love together in

Shakespeare’s Avengers Assembleth: All’s War That Ends War at Cruwys Morchard Parish Hall on 6th October.

Later in the season, Welsh super-group Alaw will be sharing their passion for the traditional music of Wales with a performance at Sheldon Village Hall on 12th October, and PaddleBoat Theatre Company invites you to help set up camp so that you can hear the greatest campfire story ever told. You can catch this at Bigbury Memorial Hall on 26th October and South Zeal Village Hall on 18th November.

Brazenly witty, contentious and often achingly funny, with songs from the likes of Tim Minchin, Fascinating Aida, Amanda Palmer, as well as her own wicked and inimitable songs, the awesome Charlie Bicknell’s Shameless Angel is set to be another sell-out success. This autumn she will be performing at Clayhidon Village Hall on 16th November, Awliscombe Parish Hall on 24th November, and Staverton Parish Hall on 30th November.
