Town followed up a respectable league draw against Launceston on Saturday with a clinical win in this midweek friendly against lower division opponents.

The fixture was originally due to be played at Minster Park as part of pre-season, but was postponed due to heavy rainfall.

SWPL Division One East side St Martins had a trio of early chances but were halted at the six yard box, and it was the Premier division hosts who soon took the lead.

No. 9 Matt Dawson was left with a tap in after the away keeper parried a strike to his feet in the seventh minute.

The visitors from Exminster then followed up with several opportunities to equalise, but Exmouth were in control of the game by the half-hour mark, as a couple of quickfire goals put them 3-0 ahead.

The first emerged from a well worked corner kick, the other struck home for Dawson’s brace after Dan Boere’s effort committed the St Martins defence.

Exmouth stopper had some work to do just into the second period, preventing a couple of attempts including a fierce shot by Kevin Pike who was a threat throughout.

Yet it was the home side who maintained possession and territory for the majority of a floodlit second period which was much flatter than the first.

A scoreline that once seemed heading for 5 or 6-0 was nullified by the visitors who also gained a late consolation via a possible own goal.
Exmouth now travel to Elburton Villa in a league match where both sides will be hoping for their first competitive win, before hosting Camelford at Southern Road on Saturday 30th August.

MOTM: Exm – Matthew DAWSON; StM – Kevin PIKE
