Shipman Financial Planning help bring music to local children
Here at The Community Church Honiton, both myself and Sean are passionate about seeing children reach their full potential. Quite often children can be disheartened by academic pressures and lose the drive to engage their vocational talents. We run The Vault, an after-school drop in with a relaxed, “youth club” vibe. We noticed quite quickly that one of the most popular activities we provided was karaoke. We also noticed some unique and fantastic vocal talent amongst the young people. Most of these children are shy and understating when it comes to their talent and need an environment away from school and home in which they can be themselves and, more importantly, express themselves.
Sean and I also have a passion for music. Sean worked for many years in the recording industry and I have experience producing and DJing electronic music. It seemed natural to us to step it up a bit with The Vault and our Friday night youth club, YP. We decided to look seriously into setting up a makeshift recording studio with the vision of seeing young talented individuals from all walks of life able to record their own music without any financial pressure. We put together a list of equipment we would need in order to begin to realise this vision and Shipman Financial Planning stepped right in and offered to provide us with that equipment.
Not only have Shipman Financial Planning helped make the vision a reality, they have provided us with the means to extend this vision further. With a functional studio, we hope eventually to expand our demographic to other areas. Being part of The Community Church Honiton we are keen to see the community benefiting from our presence. We have been involved in social action for a number of years and part of our continued commitment there, the intention is to have things like music therapy available to those in our community struggling with addiction and other issues.
The Children seem to be thoroughly enjoying the equipment and we now have regular, “creative nights” scheduled in to the club’s rota.
