Survey reveals18-34 year-olds will cut back spending for Father’s Day this year
It can be hard to find the perfect gift while still sticking to a budget, even more so when there’s a cost of living crisis. A recent survey conducted by Create Gift Love, a handmade personalised gifting company, revealed that 53% of 18 and 34-year-olds will be spending less this year.
Tony Carr (39) co-founder of Create Gift Love with wife Emily Carr (39) said: ‘A lot of our workforce fall into the 25-34 age category, and we know first-hand how the cost of living crisis has hit them and their gifting budgets.’
According to research by Gov.uk, 87% of adults reported an increase in their cost of living over the previous month in March 2022, an increase of 25% compared to November 2021 with 43% reporting that they would not be able to save money in the next 12 months, in March 2022.
These statistics support the survey results from Create Gift Love which revealed that 47% of respondents plan to keep their gifting under £30 this year and 88% of respondents said price was important when it came to buying a gift.
Create Gift Love also surveyed over 1000 dads and found that when it came to gifts, 74% of dads surveyed said they’d prefer a personalised gift over a non-personalised gift, and when asked what would mean the most to them this Father’s Day, nearly half said they’d prefer to spend time with the family.
‘As a father myself, I’d never want my children to put themselves out, we’re all feeling the effects of the cost-of-living crisis right now.’ Tony adds ‘It’s important that young people know, no matter how much or how little they spend, it’s the thoughtful gifts that leave a lasting impression.’
‘People want to get something that’s thoughtful but doesn’t break the bank. The perception is that personalised gifts are expensive. And, yes, there are plenty of expensive options out there of course, but there are also affordable gifts for dad too. Our average order value for personalised gifts is £27 which works for the 47% of gift buyers who are sticking to a budget between £10-£30 for Father’s Day.’
‘It's comforting and heart-warming to know that the dads in our lives are happiest with family time and receiving thoughtful, individualised gifts, which don’t need to put anyone under any financial pressure. This is really important, Father’s Day should be about celebrating dads, not worrying about money.’
