Healey's to host Big Apple Cyder Festival
100 cyders and 100 acts will star in a new festival in September.
The Big Apple is a brand new three day event held at Healey’s Cyder Farm, near Perranporth, from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 September 2013.
A celebration of the West Country’s cyders and great music, tickets include a tractor ride through the orchards of this working farm and four cyder samples.
Commercial director, Joe Healey, said: “September is the perfect time to hold a cyder festival, especially this year as we are looking forward to a bumper harvest.
“Festival goers will be able to watch our apples being harvested, then see them being pressed on the farm before tasting them. We’ll have all of our cyders at the festival including our new Rattler 4% ABV which is the latest addition to our Rattler range, and our new Healey’s Gold.”
Visitors will be able to sample 100 varieties of cyder from across the UK including Healey’s Cornish Scrumpy and their famous Rattler Original. Healey’s Cornish Apple Juice will also be served as well as a selection of ales.
An eclectic mix of music will keep crowds entertained with folk stars Mad Dog Mcrea, London nine piece Brass Roots and Black Friday among the acts confirmed so far.
Ben Hall, from event organisers Live Music Connections, said: “We wanted to hold a music festival that celebrates the famous West Country cyder and there really isn’t a better place to do that than at Healey’s. They are Cornwall’s longest standing cyder producers and their farm is set amongst beautiful rolling countryside.
“We already have some amazing bands lined up so it’s shaping up to be a fantastic weekend.”
Adults and children can enjoy a range of activities including an inter-pub tug of war, a sea shanty battle and barn dances.
Healey’s Cyder Farm is also home to lots of friendly animals such as pygmy goats, rabbits, a shire horse called Duchess, and an Exmoor pony.
A Cornish sausage sizzle and hog roast alongside other festival food will be on offer throughout the weekend. Visitors can also enjoy cream teas and other hot and cold food from Healey’s farm restaurant.
Tickets will also include the opportunity to tour the orchards, learn how cyder making has changed over the centuries with a 16th Century press and to buy bottles of Healey’s cyder made on site from their farm shop.
Weekend tickets are now on sale for £12 per person. Full weekend camping tickets are £25 per person. Weekend campervan tickets cost £35 and include entrance for two people. Children under 14 are free and all under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm has 20 acres of orchards and 3,000 apple trees. Open year round, the farm offers a unique visitor experience attracting around 400,000 people each year.
