Time for an MOT at the Exeter Nuffield!
Over 100 people a month are now being given a personalized health MOT at the Nuffield Heath Exeter Hospital.
Paul Westoby is a Physiologist based at the Exeter Nuffield. He said: “There has been a significant increase in the interest of this new service. People are seeing the benefits of a health check, coupled with excellent practical, realistic lifestyle advice enabling them to achieve their desired goals and improving their health and wellbeing”.
The MOT includes a cholesterol check, blood tests, and ECG and personal coaching, and includes time with a specialist Physiologist and one of the Nuffield health assessment doctors whose background is in general practice.
Dr Diane Baker works with Paul at the Exeter Nuffield. She said: “The major benefit of health screening is to promote a healthy lifestyle and identify early those at increased risk for common conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We encourage patients to make specific lifestyle changes that are likely to be of significant benefit to their future health. Health screening can also detect more significant problems such as cancers.
"In my years doing health assessments, investigations and examinations done as part of the assessment have led to the identification of lung, bowel, ovarian and renal cancers that may otherwise have gone undetected for quite some time.”
Hospital Director Paul Taylor said: “Patients tell us that they really value this service. There is lots of information around about health and people can get confused. This MOT gives you a thorough check up, reassures you and provides really good advice about lifestyle.”
