Hidden Gems in Gran Canaria
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Like most tourist hubs, the majority of tourists gather in the capital, in this case, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Here you can find stunning but many times crowded beaches, restaurants, bars and shops.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t find hidden gems within the city, a good example is the Jardin Botanico Viera y Clavijo, a cool garden with tall cactus and lizards, or the Museo Nestor a museum dedicated to a local artist, it’s located in a stunning historical building.
I recommend you stroll around the city and discover what it has to offer.
Natural Swimming Pools
Gran Canaria is not only home to great beaches, but it also has a ton of natural swimming pools and lakes, where you can take a swim or do different activities.
In the Moya municipality, you can find Charco de San Lorenzo or Piscina Punta De Tomí, a calm pool next to the rough ocean where you can take a relaxing swim. If you want to experience a cove-like place head to Roque Pieto, located in the municipality of Santa Maria de Guia. Nestled between two cliffs you’ll find two natural pools, making it a unique option.
Also, close to Las Palmas, in Arucas you’ll find Los Charcones De Bañaderos. Huge natural swimming pools, with calm and warm waters suitable for relaxing and swimming.
If you want a refreshing swim, head to Agaete’s Charco Azul, a natural preserve with a cascade and a pond suitable for swimming. You can get there hiking but it’s well worth it.
Stunning Valleys and Villages
You can find a ton of natural parks and valleys, welcoming tourists with breathtaking landscapes and views. A good example is Agaete’s Valley, the whole vibe of this area is amazing. You’ll find places like Mirador Llanos de La Mimbre a viewpoint toward the sea, and another viewpoint Era de Berbique, with stunning views of the valley.
On the other hand, if you are on an adventure and head to Valley of Tears, route GC-606 is an incredibly steep and narrow road across the mountains with the most breathtaking views you’ll ever see. There are a couple of viewpoints with mentioning like El Carrizal and Barranco de Siberio.
Getting to Route GC-606 is a whole adventure by itself, it starts at a town called La Aldea de San Nicolas, where you can find a natural pool too.
