Police are warning motorists of potential congestion on the A30 in the Okehampton area this summer. The temporary closure of Sourton Service Station for refurbishment is likely to cause congestion at Belstone Services in the coming weeks. Research carried out by GPS technology specialists Garmin, to mark their 25th anniversary, reveals that over a third (39%) of people don’t know how to navigate using a traditional map and need to rely on guided directions in order to get them to their destination. People are being urged to help cut the number of towing related incidents on the country’s major roads this summer by checking their caravan or trailer before setting out.

There were 516 towing related incidents recorded on Highways Agency roads in the South West between July and September in 2013, and 2415 incidents nationally, each potentially causing long delays and distress to those involved.

New bus service as work continues on A380

The South Devon Link Road project team has announced the launch of a new bus service, as construction on the A380 South Devon Link Road moves into the next phase.

The new bus route is being introduced as a result of the closure of five bus stops along the Link Road. Activity is planned on sections of the existing A380 which are currently used by traffic, so the bus stops in three locations will be permanently removed on 28th July.

UK airport security tightened

Airline passengers travelling on some routes to and from the UK will be required to show their electronic devices can be powered up before being allowed to fly.

The Department for Transport have advised passengers to ensure their devices are charged before travelling, warning that if your device doesn’t switch on when requested, you will not be allowed to take it onto the aircraft.
