Collision closes Alphington Road

Update 12.00: Alphington Road has been reopened.

Alphington Road in Exeter is currently closed following a collision between a lorry and a car.

Emergency crews are on the scene.

The collision happened at around 11am.

The road is closed between Marsh Barton Road and Cowick Street. Traffic is queueing in both directions.

The South West's deepest gorge is now accessible to those with limited mobility thanks to a charity hire scheme based in Devon. The National Trust's Lydford Gorge in Devon has become the newest site to come on board as a partner for charity accessibility scheme, Countryside Mobility South West. Roadworks planned for North Devon Link Road

Essential roadworks are planned for the North Devon Link Road from Monday 2 June.

It follows patching work which has been carried out during night time closures earlier this week in preparation for new surfacing. The majority of the work from 2 June will be surface dressing.

However, the opportunity will also be taken to carry out drainage work, sign maintenance, grass cutting, roadmarking and gully cleaning in order to minimise disruption and ensure the safety of the workforce.

Devon hotels positive about summer

Devon Hotels and Restaurants Association members are reporting up to a 25% increase on business year on year over the critical spring holiday periods.

As well as Exeter based hotels, the Association also includes quality hotels and restaurants across Devon including Dartmoor, East Devon, South Hams, Torbay and North Devon.

Stagecoach announce half hourly luxury bus service between Torquay and Plymouth

Stagecoach South West has announced (16 May) it will be promoting the recent service improvements to its flagship Gold bus service with two roadshows during half term week (week commencing 26 May 2014).

Responding to passenger demand, Stagecoach has doubled the frequency of the service’s Torquay to Plymouth connection with buses now running to up to every half hour, 6 days a week and an hourly service on Sundays.

The biggest ever guide to Exeter was published this weekend offering tourists an array of places to visit and stay in what is fast becoming one of the region’s top city break destinations.

Latest figures confirm that in total almost £187m was spent by visitors whilst on holiday in the city (2012).

Spend by UK holidaymakers staying overnight in Exeter increased from £66m to £80m and for overseas visitors from £30.2m to £38.7m (between 2011 and 2012). In just four years, spend by overseas visitors in Exeter has almost doubled, from £20.9m in 2009 to £38.7m in 2012.
