Pinhoe family find balance at Redrow development
Families in the Pinhoe area of Exeter are settling into a relaxed lifestyle at Redrow’s new housing development. The Harringtons balances access to the city centre with the space and safety parents want from family living. One such family is the Nickells, who have found the peaceful location and spacious living they were hoping for in Redrow’s four-bedroom Canterbury property.
Local couple Charlotte and Adam Nickells, along with their five-year-old daughter Daisy, made the short move from Pinhoe Road to The Harringtons in August. Charlotte Nickells explains: “We were living in a semi-detached house on one of the main roads into Exeter, but with our daughter growing up fast we wanted to move to a more family-friendly location, allowing her to play outdoors and ride her bike.
“There wasn’t a Canterbury showhome open when we first visited The Harringtons and we took a bit of a leap of faith and bought the house completely off-plan. We found the pictures of the Canterbury house on the Redrow website, as well as video tours and floor plans, really useful. Buying off-plan gave us great flexibility as we were able to choose details such as the wardrobe colours and the kitchen design. They really give our home a personal touch – it’s surprising how little things, like the choice of door handles, make a difference to the character of the property.
“We loved the traditional exterior of the New Heritage Collection, it really blends in with the local area, yet the houses are lovely and modern inside. The layout of the Canterbury home works well with our family life. Adam has started working from home occasionally and wanted a downstairs office, I’ve always liked the idea of a utility room and the Canterbury allowed both of us to have these. Also, it’s great to have a room upstairs for Daisy to play and keep all her toys tucked away. The outdoor space really appealed to us as Daisy enjoys playing outside, so our spacious and safe garden allows her to do that much more than before.
“The Harringtons has clearly been designed with families in mind, our house is at the end of a cul-de-sac and when we first moved in the children from the other end of the site rode their bikes round to introduce themselves to Daisy. Yet it’s still really easy to get into Exeter, there is a bus stop nearby and Adam can easily access cycle routes to ride into work.”
Redrow helped the Nickells family have a fuss-free move with their Part Exchange scheme. In order to reserve the plot that they had chosen the family needed a quick and easy sale of their old house. Emma Solman, sales manager for Redrow (South West), said: “Our Part Exchange scheme means that customers don’t have to worry about a lengthy chain and have a fixed move-in date. Redrow ensures a fair price by getting three local agents to value all properties, so everything is based on realistic prices.”
The Harringtons development offers a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties from Redrow’s New Heritage Collection, which is influenced by the traditional character of Arts and Crafts house design. Pinhoe station is only a ten minute walk from the site, and Exeter city centre offers a variety of shops and entertainment venues. The M5 is easily accessible and Dartmoor National Park is only a short drive away, as well as the coastal resorts of Exmouth and Torbay.
