Good Sixty partners with Co Delivery, Exeter's e-cargo bike delivery service

Good Sixty has arrived in Exeter, bringing the best local retailers and producers together online. A simple, convenient way to support the city’s independents, locals can get everything from weekly groceries to gifts and treats in a single purchase, delivered to the doorstep via zero-emissions delivery e-cargo bikes.

In partnership with Exeter’s Co Delivery, a growing number of the city’s independents are joining the Good Sixty collective. Ben’s Farm Shop has a wide range of sustainable essentials for the weekly shop, from fresh organic groceries to store cupboard and fridge fillers. There’s also Emma’s Breads at the Boatyard Bakery, cheeses, wines, and ciders from Pullo and brunch or BBQ boxes from Lloyd Maunder or Burrow Farm. All of this and so much more can be delivered sustainably by e-cargo bike, with just one ‘click’. Apple Blossom Café, Bon Gout, Ebdon’s Refreshments, and Ginger Cat Deli offers the perfect solution for summertime picnics, garden suppers, and delicious working-from-home lunches.

Good Sixty was created by Chris Edwards - a passionate supporter of his local high street (Bristol’s famous Gloucester Road). Realising its diversity and independence was increasingly threatened by big, national retailers he launched Good Sixty, steadily building up a loyal community of retailers and shoppers. The retailers reap the rewards that the additional revenue stream Good Sixty provides, while shoppers enjoy the convenience of having groceries from their local, independent shops delivered to their door. As well as the obvious ethical advantages such as helping local businesses thrive, Good Sixty customers appreciate the significant decrease in the volume of packaging used when compared to a similar shop from a supermarket.

Wherever possible, Good Sixty works with an established local delivery service to fulfill its orders. In Exeter, Co Delivery’s bright orange e-cargo bikes are already a familiar sight around the city’s streets and offer a fast, effective, and sustainable way to deliver to Good Sixty’s shoppers.

Good Sixty Co-Founder, Chris Edwards says,  “I’m amazed by the amount of great independent shops and small-scale producers in Exeter, and I know many residents want to ‘shop local’ but simply don’t have the time to get to each separate shop or hunt out local, specialist producers. We’re so pleased that together with Co Delivery we can make a zero-emissions delivery alternative to a supermarket shop more accessible than ever”.

“The start of the pandemic a year ago saw many of us turning to our local independents for provisions as supermarkets struggled to keep pace.  Not only did this provide a lifeline for consumers, but also for many independent retailers who responded instantly to the surge in demand by offering online shopping and delivery. Now, as we tentatively ease of lockdown it is crucial that we continue to shop local.  And with many of us making a gradual return to the workplace, a one-stop local delivery drop is still the most convenient way to continue to support independents and keep our high streets alive”.

Jenny Pescod, Co Delivery’s founder, added,  “I am delighted to be working with Good Sixty, enabling more of Exeter’s residents to embrace our incredible variety of independent food and drink retailers. Our e-cargo bikes can deliver quickly and efficiently whilst consuming a staggering 94% less energy than an e-van, making them the perfect partner for Good Sixty’s offer.”

According to a study at Harvard business school, there is a 60% greater economic benefit to your community, if you choose to shop in a local independent store rather than a large supermarket, hence the name Good Sixty. The Bristol start-up is living up to this name, helping to create wealthier, healthier, better connected communities in Bristol, Bath, Stroud, Borough Market, and Oxford as well as Exeter.  With so many large national and international online retailers vying for consumer attention, at a time when small businesses need as much support as they can get, there has never been a better time to support local by visiting their stores or shopping with them through the Good Sixty platform.
