Exeter School staff and pupils have raised almost £1,000 for charity by growing or wearing moustaches for Movember.

Teaching, maintenance and administrative staff at the co-educational independent school have been amusing their colleagues and pupils with their elaborate facial hair to raise awareness and funds for testicular cancer and male cancers generally.

Al Reynolds, Giles Trelawny, Will Daws, Ben Masters, Ed Jones, Andy Mason, Julian Fawkes, Richard Baker, Warren Houghton, Paul Sprake, Tom Brimelow, James Wilson, Graham Bone, Guy Willson, Peter Boddington, Peter Tamblyn, Andy Cox, Peter Tamblyn,

Rob Charters, Jonathan Marshall and Paul Bell all took part in the initiative organised by the new Head of Drama Jamie Brough.

Not to be excluded, Exeter School’s librarians Liz Taylor, Sue Edmunds and Janice Krafft sported moustaches at break and lunch time, helping Exeter School raise £969.82.

Jamie Brough said: “The incidences of testicular cancer have more than doubled in since the 1970s. Men are traditionally too proud and stubborn to talk about health issues, and it is therefore important that we educate young men to be confident and comfortable to communicate and talk freely about their health. It is a fantastic and very relevant cause.”

Pupils from Buller House also joined in raising money for the Movember Everyman charity by holding a Mo Day on the last Thursday of the month and selling 500 fake moustaches to their friends.

Head of House Peter Boddington said: “It was great fun to see large numbers of pupils wearing moustaches in support of the Mo staff who have been growing and caring for their Mos all month. Well done all!
