Almost 200 members of the public have signed up to be a part of this sponsored sleep out on Saturday 15th March at The Guildhall Shopping Centre, Exeter.

Event organiser, Sophie Hodge, says “we are overwhelmed by the support of the community. So many people have come together to make a difference in the lives of homeless young people and I just want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to each of them.”

Radio Exe are the media sponsors, helping to host the event on the night. Thomas Westcott and Gilbert Stephens have sponsored Sleep Easy and Barclays, Cartridges, Crowd Cube, ROKK Media and Stephen Scowns have all entered teams to take part.

Ian Creek from ROKK Media says “we're always looking for ways to raise awareness of the work local charities do. The YMCA do some fantastic work and having attended the launch of the event and heard directly from one of the young people that has benefited we could see just how valuable the YMCA is. We expect Sleep Easy to be challenging, rewarding and a real eye opener.

Last year £30,000 was raised from Sleep Easy, enough money to support 10 homeless young people at Exeter YMCA for a year. 1 in 100 young people experience youth homelessness in the UK every year and Exeter YMCA provides accommodation and support to around 70 homeless young people per annum.

There is still time to join the event yourself and spend one night sleeping rough so others don’t have to. To find out more and register go to www.sleepeasyexeter.org.uk
