A nurse at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Cassie Bartlett, and a group of college pals have rallied round in support of friend Emily Cane to help her fundraise for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Emily was due to take part in the London Marathon on 23rd April in memory of her mum Susie who sadly passed away last year.

Unfortunately, Emily has suddenly become seriously unwell herself and so is unable to complete the challenge she had been training hard for the last four months.

To help support Emily whilst she is ill, childhood best friends Cassie, Izzy Greenslade, Jo Smith, Lydia Venner, Haidee McAndrews and Alys Dinsmore have stepped in to meet her £2,000 fundraising target for Macmillan.

Cassie, a Sister on Okement Ward at the RD&E, said: “We have stepped in to raise the in memory of her mum money whilst Emily’s not able to. She has already raised over £600 herself and we plan to continue her fundraising with cake sales, cocktail nights and lots more. We know she’s been checking her donation page a lot whilst she’s been ill and it’s been making her so happy to see people donating, so we want to carry that on.”

The group recently held a cake sale in Medical Outpatients at the RD&E to raise funds, with cakes being donated by family, friends and Herbies vegetarian restaurant in Exeter.  They successfully raised £380 towards their target.
