SWH were proud to present representatives from the Devon Air Ambulance Trust with a cheque for £502 last Thursday.

SWH, a multi-disciplinary contractor providing civil engineering, highways maintenance and construction services, has proudly supported the DAAT since 2008, having raised nearly £3,000 for the cause during that time. In 2011 staff voted DAAT to be SWH’s charity of choice which it has remained since.

SWH and its work force of over 600 have since raised money for the local charity through fundraising days and in-house competitions.

The Trust provides emergency medical services through the provision of two helicopter air ambulances covering the county of Devon. The helicopters are run by the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, which is a registered charity, raising money from public and private donations in excess of £3 million every year.

Tracy Owen and Adam Short from the charity recently visited SWH’s head office in Rockbeare, where they were greeted by the company’s Managing Director, Ben Pyle. Ben presented the charity with a cheque for £502 which was raised thorough SWH’s Near Miss Reporting scheme, which is used to identify safety challenges and engage the workforce in resolving them. The company donates £1 for each Near Miss text received.

The remainder of the money was raised through staff donating their rewards from an in-house suggestions scheme that encourages staff to contribute toward ever improving service to its customers, efficiency and health and safety. One suggestion went forward to win a Highly Commended Health and Safety Award from the Highways Agency and has been widely adopted across the industry.
