On your marks, get set…Toss!

On Shrove Tuesday (Tuesday 17th February), Princesshay will host the second World Pancake Racing Championships.

Local businesses, organisations and clubs are now being invited to demonstrate their flipping credentials by entering a team of between two and four members for this fun and entertaining contest.

The relay race involves each team member running along a short course before flipping a pancake four times.  Eagle-eyed officials will be checking that the flipping is done properly.  Speed, skill, dexterity and co-ordination will be key ingredients but above all, a willingness to have a flipping fun time. Regulation sized pancakes will be kindly supplied by ABode Exeter, hopefully made with self-raising flour to give those flips extra lift! Teams have the added incentive of eating their pancake at the end if it survives the course intact.

There are only thirty places available so local businesses and individual teams are advised to enter early to avoid disappointment.  That will also allow plenty of time to practice those flips and even stir up some friendly rivalry with other companies or shops.  Fancy dress or corporate branding is strongly recommended to add some colour and glitz to the event and for the winning team to get photographed with the trophy.

The Pancake World Championship is a partnership between local Event Management company Wacky Nation and Princesshay, to raise funds for local charities including Age UK Exeter, Princesshay’s charity of the year for 2015.

Sally Raynes, Wacky Nation said, “This is a fantastic excuse to step out of the office for some sporting fun and even earn some spectacular publicity for your company. After all, where else can you become a World Champion during your lunch break?   The event is a great opportunity for teams and shoppers to get excited about something during half term”.

Wayne Pearce ,Centre Director, Princesshay said: “We’re pleased to host this year’s Wacky World Pancake Racing Championship.  This event is a great way to celebrate pancake day and is a brilliant opportunity for local businesses to get involved. Money raised will go towards our charity of the year, Age UK, Exeter. We’ll of course be entering a team from Princesshay and we hope everyone has a ‘flipping’ good time!”

The pancake race will take place during lunch time with the first heats kicking off at 12.30pm with prizes including a gorgeous meal at Michael Caine (donated by ABode Exeter), Princesshay Gift Card and a trophy awarded to the winner.  Presentations are expected to take place at 1.15pm.

The organisers hope teams will get themselves sponsored, (though not compulsory) and raise money for Princesshay’s charity partner for 2015, Age UK Exeter, or their favourite charity.

Entry costs just £40 per team.
